About Us

In 1979 Mike Crowder participated in the statewide Industrial Arts Association competition. In addition to an award for overall excellence Mike Crowder, a junior at Warwick High School took first place for third year woodworking and was the state’s only winner of the American Industrial Arts Association for woodworking. He handcrafted a cherry corner cupboard for his Mom. It is still in his childhood home.

In 1991 Mike decided to do what he loved as a business and began creating custom furniture. He was approached to do a kitchen and Crowder’s Custom Cabinets was born. He began designing and building custom kitchen cabinets in his garage with his wife, Joyce, as his only sander/helper. He soon had so much work that he had to move out of the garage into a small shop behind a shopping center and hired one employee. Word spread about his quality craftsmanship and business increased so much that he moved into a larger shop in downtown Newport News. The employees at Crowder’s Custom Cabinets have all been hand picked for their great attitudes, love of woodworking and desire to turn out quality cabinets with great attention to detail.

In 2004, Mike’s dream of owning his own building in which to create master crafted custom cabinets came true. He purchased the 9,000 square foot building in Hampton, Virginia where he is today. After extensive renovations, the showroom blossomed into a beautiful display of Crowder’s Custom Cabinets.

In 2005 Crowder’s Custom Cabinets became a Platinum Dealer for Aga Ranges, a British Cooker. We carry the Traditional Cooker, the Total Control Cookers and the Legacy line. The Aga Cookware Collection is also on display in our showroom and available for purchase.

In 2006 we added a line of Architectural Glass and StoneImpressions to compliment the custom cabinetry.
